Компания British Aerospace намерена подписать контракт с Дели на поставку 60 истребителей Хоук на сумму 1 млрд фунтов. Как передает "Эхо Москвы" со ссылкой на ИТАР-ТАСС, в поддержку этой сделки выступил министр обороны Великобритании. Данный вопрос будет подниматься на международной выставке вооружений, которая пройдет в Индии в феврале. Представитель посольства Пакистана в Лондоне заявил что это еще больше обострит напряженность между Дели и Исламабадом.

Russian and Indian Companies to Produce New Airplane Together

The largest Indian state aviation enterprise, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. /HAL/ and two Russian companies - the Irkutsk Aviation Complex and the Ilyushin Design Complex - have reached agreements on the joint production in India of a multirole transport airplane.

As the HAL chairman, Nalini Ranjan Mohanti, reported to RIA Novosti, the commercial production of the airplane will begin in 6 years. It is calculated for 100 seats in the passenger variant and in the transport can carry from 20 to 50 tonnes of freight.

The cost of the airplane will be 20 percent cheaper than the market prices for similar aircraft, Mohanti noted. According to him, the cost of the project will be determined finally in the near future, and its detailed account will be ready by 20 January 2002.

According to the agreement on hand, the Russian companies will transfer to HAL the conceptual draft of the production of the airplane and the metallurgic know-how. For its part, HAL will accept for itself the creation of the infrastructure, the manufacturing project and the commercial production itself.

Local observers note that the Indian side is investigating various variants of obtaining European manufacturing technology for the newest avionics for the airplane. As regards the engines, they will be turbines, and to obtain them, Hal, by all appearances, will turn to Rolls-Royce or some other well-known company.

Besides the agreement that was reached on the joint production of the multirole transport airplane, the Hal chairman said, an agreement also was signed on the manufacture by the Russian company of a passenger airplane for 50 - 72 seats. In the coming 10 years, Mohanti noted, India will need not fewer than 100 similar aircraft for regional airlines.

Heavy-Lift Airplane of An-124 Series to Be Upgraded by Russian and Ukrainian Specialists

A heavy-lift airplane of the An-124 series will be upgraded by Russian and Ukrainian specialists, the reported at the Russian Federation Ministry of Transport State Civil Aviation Authority /SCAA/ on Thursday to an RIA Novosti correspondent.

They explained at the Ministry that a joint long-range program /including measures to 2020/ will be developed for this purpose in the first half of this year. This, according to a Ministry representative, will allow the An-124 as before to occupy a dominant position in the rendering of aviation services in the international market of hauling out-size and non-standard cargoes.

As is proposed, the program will include increasing the the flying and technical characteristics of the An-124 airliner and its upgrade the An-124-100 ``Ruslan`` produced by the Ukrainian Antonov ANTK aviation enterprise /city of Kiev/. Moreover, the upgrade of the avionics is envisioned. Included is the improvement of the crew`s life support system, the installation of modern electronics, which provide warning of dangerous approach with another airplane in the air or with the ground, the installation of modern digital black boxes, the installation of an emergency signals broadcast system and so forth.

The program will include a number of organizational measures: for the order of the support of the airliners` flight worthiness in the after-sales period and guarantee and field supervision of the use of the airplanes, they noted at the SCAA.

This program should be examined in May at meetings of the appropriate departments and approved in June by the governments of Russian and Ukraine.

Production of New Ka-60 Military Helicopter Begins

They have begun production of new Russian Ka-60 multirole designated helicopters in the Moscow suburb of Lukhovitsy. As RIA Novosti is reporting, after the completion of the first example and performance of a number of test flights, this helicopter, designed at the well-known Kamov helicopter OKB, will be started in series production.

According to the enterprise`s information, the need for such helicopters at the present time in the Russian army alone is up to 350 aircraft, and its prospects are estimated as very good. The helicopter with a payload of 5 tonnes is called upon to fill a niche in the domestic helicopter fleet, which the Mi-4 - one of the most widely produced and successful first generation aircraft, produced in an ``edition`` of 3,850 examples - occupied previously.

The multirole Ka-60 ``Kasatka`` helicopter is intended for hauling an armed landing party, delivery of weapons and ammunition in the region of combat activities, the evacuation of the wounded, the protection and patrol of the economic zone with basing on board ships, the performance of search and rescue operations, and the instruction and training of flying personnel.

The Ka-60 helicopter is built in a single-rotor scheme with a five-blade main rotor with a diameter of 13.5 meters. The body has improved aerodynamic lines, with large opening for door from both sides and retractable landing gear. The airmen and assault troops are accommodated on anti-crash, shock-absorbing seats.

The power plant include new generation engines developed by the Rybinsk Design Bureau of Motor Building under the management of the General Designer, A.S. Novikov.

KAPO to Upgrade Tu-160

An upgrade version of the Tu-160 strategic bombers and missile carriers, which it is planned to begin in 2002 at the Kazan` Aviation Production Association /KAPO/, will depend on the volumes and quality of the financing of this work.

A highly-placed representative of the Tupolev firm announced this to Interfax-AVN on Thursday /10.01.02/. According to him, the firm has developed several variants of upgrade for the Tu-160. ``The engineering side of the upgrade on any of the variants is assured in full by the Russian developers of the equipment and the enterprises which manufacture this equipment,`` the source noted. He also reported that the chief customer has approved and supported the proposals of the Tupolev firm for the upgrade of airplanes of this type.

According to Interfax-AVN, the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense has signed an agreement with KAPO for the overhaul and upgrade of all 15 Tu-160 from the make-up of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division.

According to the plans of the military department, the Tu-160 airplanes will remain in commission until 2030 with the condition of uninterrupted upgrade on the composition of the avionics and armament.
